State Visit to Canada
SWEDEN, November 3 - Published
Their Majesties The King and Queen will pay a State Visit to Canada on 18–20 November 2025 at the invitation of Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada.
The Government will be represented by Minister for Energy, Business and Industry and Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch and Minister for Defence Pål Jonson.
The aim of the State Visit is to consolidate and develop the close relationship between Sweden and Canada by reinforcing cooperation in the security and defence area and promoting innovation, trade and investment within areas such as the green and digital transition. The State Visit also seeks to strengthen people-to-people ties by promoting cooperation within research and skills supply.
Relations between Canada and Sweden are characterised by a high degree of consensus, shared values and interests, with strong ties between the two countries’ peoples. Our cooperation as NATO Allies has brought us even closer together.
Around 30 Swedish companies, government agencies and other organisations will be part of the Team Sweden delegation that Business Sweden is arranging on behalf of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. An extensive programme is planned for the delegation, including participation in the Sweden Canada Innovation Days conference, which aims to strengthen cooperation between Swedish and Canadian actors in defence and security, electrification and advanced technology.
Sweden and Canada will launch a strategic partnership during the State Visit. It will act as a political framework that aims to further deepen relations and strengthen our capacity to address joint challenges.
The three-day State Visit will take place in Ottawa and Montreal.
Their Majesties paid State Visits to Canada in 1988 and 2006. The most recent incoming State Visit from Canada was in 2017.
Further information about the participants and programme will be published closer to the date of the Visit.
